by Mikel Arteta believes winning the Carabao Cup could lay the foundation for Arsenal to win more silverware in the future.
The Gunners have won the FA Cup and two Community Shields during Arteta’s tenure, which will last five years next Friday.
Arteta expressed his desire to win more trophies when he signed a new contract in September and is targeting the Carabao Cup this season.
Arsenal have reached the quarter-finals of the competition and host London rivals Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening.
“It’s really helpful, it brings belief, confidence, positive energy, touching the trophy, being in the semi-finals and beating someone in the final,” Arteta said.
“It is that energy that creates the right path to do something different, especially because of the timing and having the competition in this country gives it that momentum.”
“I fully believe that winning and getting through to the next round will create something new in the team and that’s why games like this are so important.”
“It keeps everyone on their toes and everyone is ready to play these games and competitions and when you can win you need momentum and belief and you’re ready.” The team is committed every three days to try to do the same for the older ones to achieve.”
After a frustrating draw at home to Everton, Arsenal head into Wednesday’s game against Palace.
It was the third Premier League game in a row in which Arsenal failed to score from play and many felt they were reliant on set pieces.
“That’s always the narrative,” Arteta said. “If you score five goals and another five and three, you won’t talk about it.
“If you admit it. It says, “You don’t have many white sheets.” That’s normal. That’s the narrative. That doesn’t change for us.
“We want to improve, regardless of whether we score three or five points. Even though we didn’t score a goal on Saturday, we want to improve defensively.
“The frustrating thing is watching it (the Everton game) again and seeing how much the team did without getting any reward.
“If we look back at all the games in the league, our margins are ten times greater than many other teams that won that day. This is football.
“In the end we have to put the ball in the net and then we won’t have this problem. With the team dominating the game, there is very little to say.”
