Steven Spielberg & Chris Columbus Reunite for “Gremlins 3”
After decades of rumors, restarts, and fan hopes, “Gremlins 3” is officially happening. Warner Bros. Discovery has given the green light, and the movie is set for a November 19, 2027, release.
That is 37 years since the last time Gizmo graced the big screen. The gremlins are back, and this time, the original creators are driving the ship. That is a big deal. It is the real continuation of a wild and weird franchise that helped shape ’80s pop culture.
Spielberg and Columbus Reunite for the Chaos
Steven Spielberg is returning as executive producer, just like he was in the original. He is bringing his weight, credibility, and love for the project through Amblin Entertainment. That name alone sets the tone.

Films / IG / Chris Columbus, the writer of the original Gremlins film from 1984, is now directing and producing the sequel.
Columbus has said before that he didn’t want the third movie to be CGI-heavy. He is sticking with puppets as much as possible, just like the good old days. CGI will only step in to help the puppeteers, not take over. That is huge for fans who want it to feel right.
New Writers, Same Mischief Energy
Columbus isn’t doing it all alone. He is co-writing the script with Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein. That duo made noise with “Final Destination: Bloodlines” in 2025, and they know how to mix horror with a dark sense of humor. They get what made the first “Gremlins” work: it was funny, scary, strange, and unpredictable.
Their involvement signals that this won’t be a watered-down version. It will be fresh, fast-paced, and loyal to the spirit of the original. They know which buttons to push and how to bring chaos to life in a way that feels modern yet not artificial.
Plot details are still under wraps. Warner Bros. is playing it tight. But they have dropped a few hints. Jesse Ehrman, who runs development and production at Warner Bros. Pictures, said they are bringing back the “magic, mayhem, and heart” of Gremlins. That says a lot without saying too much.
The Long Shadow of the Originals

The News / No word yet on whether Zach Galligan or Phoebe Cates will return. Fans would love to see Billy and Kate again, but even if they don’t show up, this story is clearly being built by people who understand what made the original work.
The first “Gremlins” was a massive hit. It pulled in big numbers, creeped out parents, and helped push the MPAA to create the PG-13 rating. It balanced charm with chaos and left a mark that is still felt today.
The 1990 sequel, “Gremlins 2: The New Batch,” was bonkers in the best way. It didn’t make as much money, but over time, it found its fans. Hardcore ones. It went meta, weird, and wildly creative. Now, people see it as ahead of its time.
There has been talk of Gremlins 3 for years. Scripts came and went. Nothing stuck. But with the rise of legacy sequels like “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” and “Top Gun: Maverick,” now is the right moment. Fans want something that respects the original but still moves forward.
Bringing back Spielberg and Columbus makes it clear they are not handing this off to strangers. This is being built with care, not just for a box office return but for a lasting impression. These guys helped shape the original, and they are not here to mess it up.
Even though there hasn’t been a live-action film in almost 40 years, “Gremlins” never really disappeared. The animated series “Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai” kept the flame alive. It ran for two seasons on HBO Max and brought in a new generation of fans.
