The Saskatchewan Roughriders are rated fairly highly by players in the Canadian Football League, but diet and nutrition are something the club is concerned about.

The Canadian Football League Players’ Association has released its first annual CFLPA club report cards.

The CFLPA said the grades “provide players with valuable insight about their respective clubs to not only assist each other in making informed free agency decisions, but also to help raise the standards of conditions across the league.”

In October, 495 players responded to the survey.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders received an A grade in Football Operations, an A-minus in Management and Administration, and then a B grade in Training and Medical Staffing, Equipment, Family Treatment, Team Travel and Training Camps.

However, it received a D-plus in nutrition and diet.

Some anonymous quotes about the Riders were also provided.

“We need more sports coaches. Always in a rush for treatment and getting checked before training,” said one player.

“The diet and food options are pretty poor, especially at breakfast. Listening to other teams like Toronto offers much better quality and options. “Our medical team also makes it difficult to schedule an appointment because there are time slots and then they stop their day at a certain time and are no longer available after that,” another player also reported.

Only two F grades were awarded both to the Edmonton Elks. Edmonton received poor marks in nutrition and diet as well as training camp.

“I need better food for training and after games. Cold pizza isn’t good enough,” said one Elks player.

Members of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers voiced their displeasure with their team’s travel, which ultimately earned a C-plus rating.

“I think we have very bad travel from Winnipeg for away games. We are in a very small transport plane with limited seating and very little legroom. We are fed biscuits and goldfish and chips. It’s very uncomfortable and everyone I know in the team is dreading the away games,” said a Bombers player.
